Dental Care For Pets
Pet Dental Cleaning, Surgery & Radiology

Dental

Our fur babies need dental care just like we do. When there is a buildup of calculous we know there can be deeper issues. It can also affect them internally. Periodontal disease may lead to heart, liver, and kidney disease by spreading bacteria into the bloodstream. Some signs of periodontal disease include bad breath, gingivitis, tartar build-up, rubbing the face on the carpet, furniture, or paws, poor appetite, difficulty eating, growling or snapping due to pain, decreased activity, and sleeping a lot. Your pet’s teeth accumulate plaque which develops into hard, rough tartar, or calculus, which sticks to the tooth surface and attracts more and more bacteria. It also pries spaces between teeth and gums, allowing more bacteria under the gum line. Bacteria then eats away at the soft tissues and bone surrounding the tooth until it either rots out or decays and must be surgically extracted. Dogs and cats experience the same kind of dental pain and discomfort as we do. They just cannot communicate their feelings like us, which means they usually experience pain for longer periods of time. As such, it is recommended to brush their teeth daily and have ultrasonic scale and polish cleaning by a doctor yearly. We address dental care from routine prophylactic cleanings to extensive surgical extractions. We use dental radiology as part of our cleanings to properly evaluate the tooth roots.

Surgery

More than likely, there will be a time that your fur baby is going to require some kind of surgical procedure. Many features of dog and cat anatomy are not dissimilar to those of humans, and these internal components are subject to sudden trauma, injury, or chronic illness just as human organs can. Our doctor uses an individualized approach to anesthesia and surgery to make it as safe as possible. We are equipped to handle surgeries such as spays and neuters to emergency exploratories. We are also able to do some orthopedics such as amputations and ACL repairs.

Radiology

Digital radiology is a fast, safe way to view organs such as lungs, stomach, intestines, bladder, and bone. Through this modality, we can evaluate what may be going on with your pet by giving us a bigger picture of the puzzle. Just like when we have radiographs taken, there may be times that we recommend sending them in to have them read by a board-certified radiologist.

Pet Laboratory Diagnostics & Procedures

In order to evaluate many infectious, metabolic, endocrine, urinary, or fecal issues, such as kidney disease, liver disease, anemia, urinary tract infections intestinal parasites, or blood parasites, we can send out routine and advanced laboratory tests.

Additionally, we have the ability to run in-house laboratory tests like blood chemistry, CBCs, fecal, and urinalysis quickly to provide preach of mind or to find a medical issue.

A Veterinarian Checking up a Dog
Pet Pediatric & Geriatric Care

Pediatric care focuses on the needs of younger pets, which are highly susceptible to infectious diseases. Vaccinations are especially important for puppies and kittens and one of the simplest ways to prevent a wide range of diseases that can be difficult to treat. Puppies and kittens require a series of vaccinations starting at 8 weeks of age and boostering at 12 and 16 weeks of age. We also recommend a fecal test to check for intestinal parasites.

Geriatric pet care is important to maintain a good quality of life. Old age is not a disease, but older pets require extra, tender, loving care and often need special medical treatments and recommendations. Specific areas that can require special attention include the immune system, joints, weight, teeth, skin, and intestinal system. We like to use a multimodal approach to help maintain a good quality of life.
